Precision & Empathy: Ethical and Practical Strategies for Inclusive Medical Translation

Precision & Empathy: Ethical and Practical Strategies for Inclusive Medical Translation

Webinar on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00am EST

Presented by: Dr. Marc Tamarit-Galdón

In a more interconnected reality than ever, medical translation is used to bridge the linguistic and cultural gaps of patients across many cultures. Despite the similarities between English and Spanish, translating medical documents is still a daunting task with many linguistic challenges. Keeping in mind language access and social justice, we provide some problem-solving strategies to overcome said cultural and linguistic gaps. This will be a hands-on webinar. Although the examples will be in English-Spanish, this webinar is open to all translators, interpreters, and language instructors.

Learning objectives

  1. Identify common linguistic and cultural challenges faced in translating medical documents between English and Spanish.
  2. Recognize the ethical considerations of medical translation, particularly in the context of social justice and language access
  3. Incorporate inclusive problem-solving strategies in your translations to acknowledge the multicultural backgrounds of LEP patients.
