Rowland Palairet, UN staff interpreter (since 2011) and founder of The Interpretation Station YouTube channel, looks at what it takes to make it as an interpreter at the United Nations. He delves into the different skills and experience required; the kinds of meetings and challenges that he encounters on an every-day basis, and offers advice to any would-be interpreters on what steps they should take if they want to break into the field of big-league conference interpreting.

Bio:

Rowland Palairet is a staff interpreter at the UN in Geneva (AN-ES FR RU) since 2011 and Admin of a very popular and revolutionary YouTube channel on Conference Interpretation known as The Interpretation Station. Rowland is a passionate linguist and some may know him as “Scotty Kilmer of Conference Interpretation.”
