We will have four speakers:

Madeline Duprey (Director)

Steven Miller (Language Specialist-Spanish and Italian)

Sandra Borri (Language Specialist-Spanish and Italian)

Zoraida Moreno (Language Specialist-Spanish)

They will talk about the type of work they do; documents they work on; share a typical day of a language specialist and promote their job notices. They are based out of NY city, but all positions are remote.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is now recruiting full-time language specialists through usajobs.gov.

Languages: Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese/Fuzhou) and Spanish

The job is listed at the GS-9/11/12 level. Your resume, qualifying experience, and education will be used to determine your qualifications for the position and the appropriate GS level.

At the GS-9 level, the language specialist’s main job duty is to provide telephonic interpretation services to government officials and persons with limited English proficiency during a variety of immigration-related interviews and administrative proceedings.

At the GS-11/12 level, in addition to interpreting, language specialists translate documents or transcribe and translate audio material dealing with a wide variety of subject matters. The translations and transcriptions are used by government officials and attorneys to make final determinations in administrative immigration proceedings and as evidence for the U.S. Government to investigate and prosecute immigration and customs-related crimes.
