Presentation Overview:

Becoming an ATA-certified translator is an important milestone in a translator’s career. To succeed as a candidate, in addition to being a very good translator, there are many details to think about. Izaskun Orkwis is one of the people grading English-into-Spanish ATA certification exams and is here to tell you how the exam works, how it is graded, and what you need to keep in mind when preparing and sitting for it. There will be lots of examples and explanations of how grading decisions are made. The session will be in Spanish, focusing on English-into-Spanish examples; candidates in other language combinations are welcome.

 

Presenter:

Izaskun Orkwis, CT, FCCI, has been a translator for more than 20 years, working mainly for international organizations. She is a reviser for the Spanish Translation Service at the United Nations Secretariat. She holds a BA in Romance Languages and MAs in Institutional Translation and Communication. She is an ATA-certified English<>Spanish translator, a federally certified court interpreter, a certified court interpreter in Virginia, a certified healthcare interpreter (CCHI), and a sworn translator in Spain.

 

AOPC: 1.5 CEUs                               ATA: 2 CEPs
