Abstract:
This webinar is designed to help interpreters strengthen their consecutive interpretation skills by introducing new perspectives and approaches to the challenges of consecutive interpretation. We will build on participants’ existing experience to deepen their competence and enhance and fine-tune essential skills and techniques for higher accuracy and efficiency.

Bio:
Édgar Hidalgo García is an interpreter, translator, educator, and public speaker with over twenty years of experience in legal, medical, immigration, education, and community interpreting. He is best known as the Director and Lead Instructor of TransInterpreting, the online school he founded and directed for nearly a decade, where he designed training programs and continuing education courses that have prepared hundreds of interpreters across the United States.
He has held key leadership and academic roles, including Academic Coordinator of California State University, Fullerton’s Legal Interpretation Program and instructor in the Court Interpreter Training Program at UC Riverside. In these roles, he developed curricula, supervised instructor training, created specialized courses in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation, and ensured compliance with California’s judicial interpreter certification standards.
Born in Cali, Colombia, Mr. Hidalgo brings a bicultural perspective shaped by extensive travel throughout Latin America. He earned a BA in Translation & Interpretation Studies and Spanish at California State University, Long Beach, and a Master’s in Spanish Literature and Linguistics at California State University, Fullerton.
His professional experience includes serving as a staff medical interpreter at Long Beach Memorial Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, followed by extensive freelance work in workers’ compensation and medical evaluations. He later worked nearly a decade as a staff court interpreter for the San Bernardino Superior Court, after which he freelanced widely across California and Oregon.
Mr. Hidalgo has also been a speaker at major national conferences, including those organized by NAJIT, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, and the Riverside County Office of Education and Language Access.
Today, he continues to advance the field by offering exam preparation courses for state and federal court interpreters, certification training for medical interpreters, and continuing education workshops on ethics, terminology, and interpreting practice for professionals of all languages.
Through these contributions, Édgar Hidalgo García has become a leading figure in interpreter education, consistently bridging the gap between academic preparation and real-world practice. His career demonstrates a lifelong commitment to excellence, accuracy, and equal language access in courts, hospitals, schools, and communities nationwide.
